The Textile Museum's spring 2009 exhibition, "Constructed Color: Amish Quilts," will feature a selection from the finest group of Amish quilts in the world. Through the display of 30 pieces, the exhibition will illustrate the visual connections between Amish quilts and mid-20th century art and show how variations in the quilts reveal the choices of individual Amish communities. The quilts are drawn from collections at the International Quilt Study Center & Museum at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, each representing distinct Amish communities. Outstanding textiles added to The Textile Museum's collection over the last five years will be on view in "Recent Acquisitions" from March 6, 2009 through January 3, 2010. The 19 diverse objects featured in the exhibition, including clothing, bags, rugs and furnishing fabrics drawn from several continents, were selected by Textile Museum Director Daniel Walker to represent the breadth of the museum's collection, which spans centuries and cultures. The Textile Museum announced today that it is changing its hours of operation. Effective April 2009 the museum will be closed to the public on Mondays. The Textile Museum is currently open Monday through Saturday 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday 1 to 5 pm. Museum hours for Tuesday through Sunday will remain the same. Read »
